Each workshop is designed for teaching non-toxic printmaking techniques for individuals with no prior printmaking experience.
The history of printmaking parallels the history of art and is one of the oldest art forms. Printmaking is an art form consisting of the production of multiple images using various techniques and a printing press. The major techniques are relief printing (where the background is cut away and leaving a raised image), intaglio printing (where the image is incised and etched directly into a plate) and surface printing such as lithography (where the image is painted or drawn onto a stone).

NON-TOXIC LITHOGRAPHY:
Lithography, invented in 1796, is the most direct form of printmaking. The immediacy of the artist’s hand is kept throughout the process using painting and drawing techniques. Through experimentation, you can achieve a broad range of effects, from fine line drawing to transparent washes similar to watercolor painting or deep rich areas of color. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced printmaker, this course will present the unique properties of lithography printing.
PRICE: $30 (supplies included)
Minimum of 3 participants required to hold class. All skill levels are welcome to participate.

DRYPOINT INTAGLIO PRINTMAKING:
Drypoint etching was in use by the late 15th century and in the early 16th century. After suffering a period of neglect in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, drypoint was revived and has been used by most contemporary printmakers. This printmaking workshop offers an introduction to a non-toxic drypoint etching technique using plexiglass plates. The immediacy of the artist’s hand is kept throughout the process using a variety of drawing techniques, such as hatching, cross-hatching and stippling. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced printmaker, this course will present the unique properties of intaglio printmaking.
